Medwiser is now part of a larger group of non-profit websites that develop educational content, conduct research and engage in public health activities related to addiction, cancer, headache, HIV/AIDS, medical marijuana, neurology and sleep disorders.
Medwiser is currently recruiting volunteers to assist each of these 501(C)3 nonprofit organizations and websites including Medwiser.org, Amsleep.org, NYMarijuanaCare.org and NYAddiction.org.
Like Medwiser, all of these non-profits rely very strongly on volunteers to help. That means volunteers do everything from simple tasks to executive management.
How are these organizations related?
They were all founded by Dr. Michael Morgenstern and started in parallel to his training and career as a physician. Medwiser came first in 2005, while Dr. Morgenstern was in medical school in Philadelphia. Nearly 10 years later, in 2014 the American Sleep Apnea Society began. It was started shortly after Dr. Morgenstern completed his training in sleep medicine. In 2016, Dr. Morgenstern started the NY Addiction Society, to help combat the growing opioid epidemic in our country and the NY Medical Marijuana Association to help patients and providers navigate a new and exciting alternative area of medicine
A little about our websites
Our websites currently reach close to 400,000 people annually with health information. While this number is modestly good, we are looking to grow the number. Our content is not altered by agendas, we are not beholden to any corporate interest or pharmaceutical companies. We aren’t driven by profit. We just want the right health information and messaging to reach the people who need that information.
The best way to accomplish this is up for debate. However, we are starting with the recruitment of a top notch volunteer writing staff from across the USA to help generate some really interesting articles. We hope this will start a conversation that improves public health and healthcare.
